Role

We are looking for a Launch Vehicle Systems Engineer, to manage and coordinate the systems engineering tasks of the launch vehicle development process all the way to flight.

This will include leading system level trade studies and evaluating work for technical performance, requirements compliance, interface management, technical risks and system integration.

You will also manage system level technical requirements and develop/plan test and verification activities to be undertaken at system level.

pragmatic attitude and reliable results.

Responsibilities

• Lead system level trade studies and evaluate work performed by engineering departments for technical performance, requirements compliance, interface management, technical risks and system integration.
• Manage system level technical requirements and develop/plan test and verification activities to be undertaken at system level.
• Develop and maintain system-level schematics, ICDs, and technical budgets.
• Manage launch vehicle subsystem interactions and identify shortcomings/non-conformances in the technical solutions pre-implementation based upon strong cross-disciplinary background and experience.
• Lead development of launch vehicle MCI and natural environment models/analysis.
• Manage launch vehicle subsystem mass allocations and associated margins throughout project lifecycle and arbitrate associated RFDs.
• Organize and lead internal technical reviews.
• Support and/or execute mission performance analysis to reflect current launch vehicle development state.

Qualifications

• MSc within a relevant engineering field or aerospace engineering.
• Ability to arbitrate conflicting technical requirements in a multi-disciplinary environment.
• Demonstrable strong multi-physics aptitude.
• Demonstrable excellent first principles skillset covering launch vehicle critical engineering fields such as rocket propulsion systems, electrical systems, sensor systems, RF systems, embedded software development, thermodynamics, composite structures, structural dynamics, mechanisms & tribology, materials, control systems, aerodynamics, aerothermodynamics, mission analysis, thermal design, orbital mechanics, ionizing radiation effects etc.
• Demonstrably capable of judiciously deploying NASA/ECSS/MIL standards and best practices systems engineering.
• Capable of accurately employing ROM estimation techniques, or extremely detail-oriented analysis depending on setting, to ensure rapid convergence of technical solutions while managing risk.

Experience

• 5+ years working experience covering multiple engineering disciplines and including applied systems engineering tasks.
• Engineering project management experience viewed as a plus.
• Proficient in operating Solidworks CAD systems, office suite and Matlab/Simulink.

This role is based in Forres at Orbex’s UK engineering and manufacturing headquarters.
